What are the methods for extracting precious metals from gold?


Gold is a natural product that cannot be artificially synthesized, and it is divided into raw gold and cooked gold. Gold that has reached a relatively high purity after purification is called pure gold, usually referring to gold with a fineness of over 99.6%. The purified gold is generally of high purity, and some can be directly used for industrial production.


1. How to Refine Gold


Single flotation is suitable for processing coarse and medium grained natural gold iron ore. The crushed ore is fed into a ball mill, ground into slurry, and then enters flotation. Mixed mercury flotation is suitable for processing natural gold with coarse embedded particle size, stored in pyrite and other sulfide ores. Unlike single flotation, adding a mercury plate after grinding for gold recovery can achieve a recovery rate of 30-45%. 2. Introduction to the Method of Extracting Gold by Mixing Mercury and Gold Purification


This is actually an ancient method of gold purification, as long as you have patience, you can mention high purity. The specific methods are as follows:


Gold+mercury+water, continuously grinding until there are no gold particles, and gold and mercury form intermetallic compounds. Grind and mix sulfur powder with gold that has been homogenized with mercury, and heat and burn it in air. At this time, the remaining mercury evaporates, and the base metals first form metal sulfides, which later form metal oxides. Repeat the above operation multiple times and add borax to melt into gold ingots. Base metal oxides react with borax to generate low melting point substances, which float on the upper layer of the liquid. Pure gold will use this method at the bottom to prevent mercury vapor poisoning.


3. Introduction to the Wet Gold Purification Process for Extracting Gold


The wet gold purification process adopts the method of dissolving gold in aqua regia and adding a reducing agent to reduce the gold, or if a masking agent is used to complex interfering substances, followed by extraction with the original agent or extractant. This invention breaks through traditional processes such as high-temperature melting and other simple purification processes to obtain higher quality gold. Compared with existing technologies, the present invention has the characteristics of high product purity, reduced production costs, and simple and practical processes. Another method is the wet purification of gold process, which involves placing crude gold in a container, adding it to newly prepared aqua regia to submerge the crude gold, and then heating it to dissolve for 15-25 minutes. If the crude gold is not completely dissolved, aqua regia can be added to repeatedly dissolve it until it is completely dissolved.
